Stripe is the best payment infrastructure in the world. Full stop. Their dashboard gives you real-time payment data, dispute management, and basic revenue reporting. For most SaaS founders, Stripe is the first tool they check every morning.
In 2025, Stripe upgraded its Billing analytics with real-time MRR tracking, churn metrics, and even benchmarks against other Stripe businesses. They also added Stripe Sigma — a SQL-powered analytics layer that lets you query live Stripe data directly.
For basic revenue tracking, Stripe's built-in tools are genuinely good and genuinely free.
Stripe shows your total MRR. It doesn't break it down into new MRR, expansion, contraction, churn, and reactivation. Without that breakdown, you know your number — but you don't know why it changed.
Stripe doesn't offer cohort-based retention views. You can't see how customers from January retain compared to customers from June. Cohort analysis is how you measure the impact of product changes on long-term retention.
Net Revenue Retention — the metric that tells you if existing customers are spending more or less — isn't natively surfaced in Stripe's dashboard. You'd need Sigma (SQL) to compute it.
If you run 3 micro-SaaS on separate Stripe accounts, you have 3 separate dashboards. There's no way to see consolidated metrics across accounts. You're switching tabs and adding numbers manually.
Stripe shows where you are. It doesn't project where you'll be. There's no built-in forecasting based on your growth trajectory.
